What to when youbought in btc and the product hasn't be delivered

What to when youbought in btc and the product hasn't be delivered I bought a supplement not available in my country (not drugs mind you) in bitcoin. The company has given me all the proof that they had received my money but failed to send me my product and no longer answer my mails. Is there any way I canget my bitcoins back ? I tried to fill a claim but for my country bitcoins are not money so the police told me that for them there is no transaction. If not how can I help the bitcoin community by informing them to beware of this seller so they will not be stolen either (and for the FUD they are doing to the coin) ? Thanks https://ift.tt/2sqnDWG

Is asic-resistance obsolete?

Is asic-resistance obsolete? Since the early days of cryptocurrencies, we have seen attempts to utilize ASIC-resistant mining puzzles. The idea behind that was to keep rich influential custom-hardware manufacturers out of game and make mining viable on commodity hardware. But as it turnd out lately, all such current attempts are doomed to fail. And the actual higher difficulty of producing ASICs for ASIC-resistant puzzles brings even more corruption and controversy. It feels like there's no point in trying to come up with some memory hardness anymore. There will always be one company willing to spend $200M on custom hardware, because in the end it does not really matter whether it's 10x or 100000x more effective. It's frankly not possible to stay competetive against it. Wasn't it better if all currencies just utilized Blake2, or dSHA256 right now? How did we even arrive in this situation? Did nobody anticipate it to happen if the Market-cap raises this significantly? A

Is there such a thing as an "ERC20 compatible Ethereum address"?

Is there such a thing as an "ERC20 compatible Ethereum address"? I believe the answer to be no, but just asking here to confirm. I think the answer is that it is just the software interacting with the address that is ERC20 compatible or not, not the actual address. It doesn't matter what software generated the address, and it is fine to generate the address using any software for doing so. As long as I have the private key for the address, I can import that address into an ERC20 compatible wallet software, such as myetherwallet.com, and interact with the address in an ERC20 compatible way. It means that the title for the e.g. the article How to generate your Ethereum ERC-20 compatible wallet address is slightly misleading, because it sounds like there is something special with the actual address generated. But how could there be, since an address is just a key pair? Have I understood or not? https://ift.tt/2H1Evs5

How do hardware wallets integrate with software clients/nodes?

How do hardware wallets integrate with software clients/nodes? It isn't clear to me how hardware wallets interact with software clients. Is there a standard defined for this? Is it similar to signing on an offline computer and then transmitting a signed message via a different online computer? Or (I hope not) do software authors have to write support for individual hardware wallets? The tightest integration would be from the last option, but I'm wondering if there is a more manual approach similar to the "sign on the offline computer" workflow. https://ift.tt/2IVIj40

Can I win some money mining bitcoin with an old computer

Can I win some money mining bitcoin with an old computer I went to nicehash.com , a website that allows users to mine bitcoins. I have my old computer on the side, it still work perfectly, but it's pretty slow. I could use it just for the fun of trying, if I win 50$/month I'm happy. So I'm wondering, if I try to mine bitcoins, will I win a little money or will I lose some ?? I see 2 ways of actually losing money: -if my computer is up all day, it will use electricity. If I never get paid, then I lose money in global. -if my computer dies, I have to buy a new one. So the two questions are: will I ever get paid, and how much ? For the first question, I read somewhere that for each new transaction, several computers are ask to do so calculus, and the fastest computer often wins. The computer that wins get paid, the other are not. Is it exact ? Thank you guys ! https://ift.tt/2LEBDoH

Transaction fees with Dogecoin or Ripple for small amounts

Transaction fees with Dogecoin or Ripple for small amounts We are a company which sells low priced items online ($0.05 - $0.50). Due to the crypto currency hype, we also would like to accept payments through at least one crypto currency. I have analyzed a couple of crypto currencies by their average transaction fees, market cap, avg. transaction confirmation, etc. I found out that Dogecoin and Ripple have currently cheap fees, less than $0.01 cents average . Question : Can we hire the company that integrates this in our E-Commerce backend or is there anything else important to know beside the exchange fees? Are our transactions too small? So far I have taken following into account Transaction fees are not fixed, but as of writing this question the fees are acceptable for my case Exchange fees (mostly a bit higher since traded through BTC from USD/EUR) Average fees are less than $0.01, but theoretically they can be higher (if not average) For most transactions I would assume t

How does difficulty is defined for block '55798'?

Image
How does difficulty is defined for block '55798'? I know that the formula for calculating the difficulty is below - Difficulty = T (max) / T Where T (max) = 1d00ffff in decimal it is 486604799. As you can see in the above screenshot the difficulty of block '55798' is 12.85 . I'm trying to calculate this value using formula but getting the different result. D = T (max) / T When I put the correct values in the formula, It becomes like - D = (486604799 / 471067731) = 1.03 I don't know why I'm getting the different difficulty. The correct value is 12.85. Can you please let me know the reason of this? https://ift.tt/2GWZDzB

What’s the difference between a validation by nodes and a verification by miners?

What’s the difference between a validation by nodes and a verification by miners? In Mastering Bitcoin, it says: The transaction is then broadcasted on the bitcoin network, where each network node (participant) validates and propagates the transaction until it reaches (almost) every node in the network. Finally, the transaction is verified by a mining node and included in a block of transactions that is recorded on the blockchain. I assume that nodes are using public keys to validate a digital signature, but what do miners do? I know that they are solving a hash puzzle to find the nonce that generates a certain pattern of a hash value but are they verifying something here? https://ift.tt/2xilUZp

Concept of Validating Transactions

Concept of Validating Transactions Trying to get my head around Bitcoin. Been watching tutorials, unsure if I still understand Alice wants to send Bob 5 Bitcoins Alice hashes the transaction with 5 Bitcoins and send's it to Bob's mailbox, i.e his Public Key What is the job of the Miners? Before the transaction get added to a public ledger (i.e blockchain) do the miners validates that Alice has 5 Bitcoins to give (based on info in public ledger) by recreating the hash. And if validation is successful, the miners earn Bitcoins, the transaction is added to Blockchain, and Bob gets his 5 Bitcoins. Is it true that validation takes about 10 minutes or so? Really, I've been struggling with this concept. Thanks! https://ift.tt/2kw8PlG

ELI5: How does Segregated Witness (segwit) work?

ELI5: How does Segregated Witness (segwit) work? Can someone ELI5 Segregated Witness (AKA BIP 141)? I've been doing research and understand that there are segwit addresses, there are segwit transactions, and there are segwit nodes. I understand that segwit basically works by removing the witness from the scriptSig and somehow it's weighed 1 weight point while other bytes are weighed at 4 weight points, but how? How do older bitcoin nodes handle the segregated witness? Do they just not receive that data? I know that older nodes will treat those addresses as spendable by anyone since no witness is present or needed. This makes me believe the witness isn't in the transaction at all. But how? Where is the witness actually stored? Where do segwit addresses come into all of this? https://ift.tt/2LyyarB

Would it be possible to create a blockchain that uses only X+ active blocks?

Would it be possible to create a blockchain that uses only X+ active blocks? Every blockchain has a beginning, the Block 0 or also known as "Genesis Block". But wouldn't it be possible to have a blockchain or a coin, where only the last 1000 blocks are saved and 1001+ get deleted automaticly? My question is, because it would save very much problems. Full anonymity: Yes, you could save 1001+ blocks but if you need only 1000 blocks, you can delete the others. So at a specific point in time, you could create a real 100% anonymous cryptocurrency because the other blocks would no longer exists. Saves disk space: It does not longer need much space to download the blockchain. Also that means, that blocksizes could be bigger. Finally, this is one of my favorite points. When people know that they can use a blockchain where they don't need to download a blockchain for 10 hours before being able to using it, more people would and that would mean that the blockchain would be

Why is a softfork unable to divide the network?

Why is a softfork unable to divide the network? I was wondering why a soft fork cannot in principle divide the Bitcoin network as a hard fork can. I understand that a soft fork, by definition, involves only tightening the consensus rules, but the result will still be two different sets of consensus rules. If some nodes consider a block or transaction valid and others consider it invalid, a network divide should be possible regardless of which side's consensus rules are newer. The roles of each side in the division would simply be the reverse of the hard fork case. https://ift.tt/2GPwg26

Will the content in the comment field of SendToAddress show up when doing getTransaction(TXID) on the specific transaction? How is Recipient's Public Key Used When Receiving Coins (if at all)?

Image
How is Recipient's Public Key Used When Receiving Coins (if at all)? I understand the above image is dated--I posted here just for reference. Assume the first tx is for Alice (Owner 1) and the second is for Bob (Owner 2). My previous question ( Confused About Hash In Satoshi Nakamoto Diagram ) covered that the signature that ends up in the second transaction uses ECDSA and takes the Owner 1's private key and a message as input. The message is the hash of the transaction 1 (less the sig). The sig that gets stored in transaction 2, if verified with Alice's public key, proves that Alice released funds to Bob. But how does the network know that Alice meant to give these funds to Bob? When Alice "sends" coins to Bob, she first get's Bob's address (let's just keep it simple for now and say that Alice has Bob's public key). After that, it seems to me that the network would encrypt the Alice's signature with Bob's public key so that when Bob wan

What can make an unconfirmed transaction (0-conf) an invalid one other than Double-spend?

What can make an unconfirmed transaction (0-conf) an invalid one other than Double-spend? It's obvious that inputs that already been spent will make the transaction invalid (pure double-spend scenario), but is there's anything else that could make a tx invalid? Invalid inputs? Invalid signature or other data? For example, if I have a program that manages a wallet (keypairs are exclusively managed by it, and not by any human, and it's source is public) and it sends payments, can the recipient be insured that even 0-conf tx will be eventually valid and processes? https://ift.tt/2x0Tkvg

How specifically is transaction history modeled in blockchain blocks?

How specifically is transaction history modeled in blockchain blocks? I understand that each block on the Bitcoin blockchain contains a list of transactions, but let's assume (for the sake of this question) that the block in question contains only a single transaction--and that this particular transaction has a history of previous transactions (i.e., it was not a coinbase transaction). How would I figure out which block holds this single transaction's previous transaction(s)? I know that each transaction contains the hash of the previous transaction--but how do you find that hash without looking into every block on the blockchain? In other words, how can I quickly discern a transaction hash chain for a given transaction ID? bitcoinjs-lib seems to skip a step in deriving addresses from a BIP 44 wallet

bitcoinjs-lib seems to skip a step in deriving addresses from a BIP 44 wallet According to this wiki page to create a bitcoin address, 1) you have your public key of the properly derived path 2) Then SHA256 it 3) Then RIPEMD-160 it, Add version byte at the front and boom blam you’re good. But in bitcoinjs-lib , they have this function getAddress which seems to skip step 1 and continue down the path ensuring Base58Checking function getAddress (node) { return baddress.toBase58Check(bcrypto.hash160(node.publicKey), bitcoin.networks.bitcoin.pubKeyHash) } My question is, why is bitcoinjs-lib skipping step 1? Don’t you have to SHA256 the pub key again? Derivation occurs pretty straightforwardly with derivePath var child1 = root.derivePath("m/44'/0'/0'/0/0") https://ift.tt/2LmNKq8

Does Ripple has support for HD wallets?

Does Ripple has support for HD wallets? I know Bitcoin supports HD wallets. In simple terms, child keys are generated for the private and public keys. And the child key can be used to restore a wallet. I was wondering whether this kind of mechanism is available for XRP? Or is that only specific to Bitcoin? If XRP has HD wallet support, which wallets provide that feature? https://ift.tt/2ICjE07

transaction broadcasts, declining node count, mining basics and costs.

transaction broadcasts, declining node count, mining basics and costs. I read a lot about bitcoins and mining and nodes but there are a few questions that are still not answered, which are the following: As I read when a transaction is broadcasted, at first it gets confirmed by active nodes and later goes to mempool and miners pick the ones with higher fees. So the question is, when I make a transaction on a website how can I make sure that the website is broadcasting my transaction? Maybe the site is holding it because it has high fee so that he can include it in his own block? I noticed that nodes are becoming fewer every day , does this mean when they become less the security of bitcoin or its value will decrease ? In order to become a miner, do you have to be a node too? Btc.com has a crazy fast hash rate. Is it even worth to get into mining? Say I want to become a miner with a chance of solving at least one block in a month, approximately how much should I invest? And should

Is the bitcoin blockchain really non-corruptible?

Is the bitcoin blockchain really non-corruptible? Some people say that proof of work is better than proof of stake, because it's not possible to rewrite the whole blockchain on-spot. One would need to "re-mine" everything. But I think this is not true! A hypothetical attacker can rewrite the whole bitcoin blockchain and make the timestamps make the block-time exactly 10 minutes, and this way the difficulty of mining will remain at minimum, and no real mining is required. The mining effort is minimal. The way I understand it, is that such a problem is practically solved by check-pointing the blockchain in the source code. The devs hard-code block-hashes in the source code so that no one could do that. Is my description of the situation correct ? In other words: Without check-pointing, the bitcoin blockchain is inherently corruptible and can be destroyed. What am I missing here? PS: This is not about PoW vs PoS. This is basically about the claim that PoW is non-corrupti

How are difficulty level and block reward determined and stored in decentralized fashion in Bitcoin? I know the difficulty level and block reward are periodically adjusted in Bitcoin to keep the block time approximately to 10 minutes. I guess these are not determined by a central authority but rather are determined in decentralized fashion. If so, what are the exact steps involved here? Each node independently computes on their own, propagates and will it be verified? https://ift.tt/2wZqgEA

Why do we need public key as part of Witness in P2WPKH transactions?

Why do we need public key as part of Witness in P2WPKH transactions? As we want to minimize the data payload in a blockchain, which also led to concepts like SegWit, and is matter of discussion in Signature aggregation etc, I wonder why do we actually need to supply public key in order to spend? It's needless 33B of data. ScriptPubKey could look like this <HASH160> OP_CHECKSIG2 and ScriptSig <Signature>. I know this requires Softfork, but as we introduced SegWit, why wasn't this the design? Is it because mapping signature -> public key is not unambiguous? https://ift.tt/2Iy0D3b
