Best app for keeping track of portfolio?

Best app for keeping track of portfolio? I've been trying to find a good Android app that would automatically synch with my exchanges and provide me with information (in real time) such as current balance, percent chance of portfolio, total gain/loss, as well as last change, equity, percent change, total gain/loss, total percent change (since entering portfolio) and average purchase cost of each coin individually (in USD, ETH, and BTC at least). I've been using Robinhood for the past year while trading stocks and I'm kind of surprised that there doesn't appear to be a similar app for crypto that is as clean, intuitive, and comprehensive. I've tried Blockfolio, Delta, Crypto Tracker, and now on Cryptoport. I don't want to have to input everything by hand, but it's nice (tho not necessary) to have the option. And I wish the apps would automatically subtract trading fees to give the correct end balance depending on the exchange. http://ift.tt/2CmWTO3

How does SegWit reduce transaction size, when the signature is simply moved to another part of the transaction?

How does SegWit reduce transaction size, when the signature is simply moved to another part of the transaction? This video explains that the signature is moved out of the input section and moved to the new one called the witness. From what I can tell, the witness signature is still contained in this transaction - how would a simple reordering of information magically create more space? I've perused other articles and videos and none of them seem to address this "magic". http://ift.tt/2C3bhrk

Were one or more machines required to be running 24/7 on the network after the first block was mined?

Were one or more machines required to be running 24/7 on the network after the first block was mined? After mining the genesis block, did Satochi have to leave his computer running to mine the subsequente empty blocks? Was he running the whole network on a single node or did he require multiple nodes to test the transaction verifications? What would happen if at some point all nodes were off and no transactions or blocks were being generated? At some point the whole net work were probably a couple of personal computers. Did they run 24/7? http://ift.tt/2C3sTTD

Convert P2SH to P2PKH

Convert P2SH to P2PKH I'm using btcrecover to recover a Ledger BIP39 backup seed that I wrote down but seems to be wrong. The tool only accepts P2PKH addresses and my account was created very recently in this kind of format 3J98t1WpEZ73CNmQviecrnyiWrnqRhWNLy. I'm new to blockchain but I believe that this is a Segwit/P2SH account? Is there a way I can convert this into a P2PKH address so that I can use the tool? http://ift.tt/2C5cMFf

So I mined a block, but why would other nodes accept my mined block?

So I mined a block, but why would other nodes accept my mined block? When a miner finds a hash and is thus able to confirm a block of transactions, that miner will then broadcast the confirmation (block?) to the other Bitcoin nodes so taht it can be added to the blockchain. My question is, what is the incentive for teh other nodes to accept this mined block, even if it is correct and checks out against older blocks? I ask because if the reward for mining blocks decreases over time, other nodes may selfishly not want to accept this miner's effort and prefer to figure it out on their own for a greater reward now than later. http://ift.tt/2C1z36J

Lost in limbo and duration

Lost in limbo and duration I transferred several Litecoins from my Coin Base account, to Changelly to be converted into XRP Ripple on Dec 28th 2017. I previously set up my Rippex E wallet as-well. Roughly an hour later on Changelly its stated (Your money has been exchanged. Blockchain is confirming your transaction).Today is Dec 31st and I have yet to receive my Ripple coins to my Rippex E wallet. I've gone on Block Chain using the HASH id provided by Changelly, but NO DATA found...... What recourse do I have to resolve or determine the status of my transaction? http://ift.tt/2q4ZMhf

What is the link between bitcoin price and altcoin price? What if suddenly bitcoin fall down to 1$, in that case would all altcoin move down as well or would they move up? Bittrex API, generating a wallet address for XRP returns a tag but no address

Bittrex API, generating a wallet address for XRP returns a tag but no address So I'm trying to generate an address to send XRP to Bittrex via their API. They return the JSON as such: {"Currency"=>"XRP", "Address"=>"2705xxxxx"} Do I just use the tag given and assume the actual XRP address will always be the same? Am I not allowed to make multiple "destination" addresses? Say I want to send 100XRP from A->B (on Bittrex) and then another amount say 250XRP from C->D (on Bittrex). Test vectors for bitcoin core (blocks and transactions) I am looking for test vectors to test edge cases of an implementation. For instance: "Unusual" blocks that made it to the blockchain Non standard transactions that made it to the blockchain Anything else that will help in testing the implementation. Is it possible to mine empty block without downloading entire blockchain?

Is it possible to mine empty block without downloading entire blockchain? As far as I can understand, whole blockchain is required for verifying and discarding double-spend transactions. Also, mining empty block is accepted by bitcoin's blockchain protocol. When we want to mine empty block, we don't need to validate transactions, because there are no transactions (except block reward) in our empty block. Is it mean, we don't need to download entire blockchain for mining empty block? http://ift.tt/2zTpaWX

Seed recovery strategy

Seed recovery strategy I got locked out of my Ledger Nano S. When setting up the device I was given a 24 words seed passphrase, which I wrote down. The device asked me to verify 3 of the 24 words and my input was valid. It now turned out that I made a mistake when writing the seed passphrase down since the checksum doesn't validate and I can't recover my wallets. All words that I wrote down are words that are in the BIP32 spec words list . What strategy would you use (involving coding or not coding) to try and fix the seed passphrase? http://ift.tt/2Ch6erv

How can I avoid paying transaction fees?

How can I avoid paying transaction fees? A bitcoin transaction requires paying a fee to the network, and that fee changes depending on network congestion. During busy times the fee rate may increase substantially, so how can a user avoid paying these fees in the first place? Is there a way to transfer/import bitcoin from one address to another in order to avoid transaction fees? Is DLT by Governor Jerome H. Powell to eat up Bitcoin? [on hold]

Is DLT by Governor Jerome H. Powell to eat up Bitcoin? [on hold] Innovation, Technology, and the Payments System by Governor Jerome H. Powell vs. Bitcoin BlockchainPro Hi, I would like to introduce the concept of BlockchainPro in support of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) based Digital Currencies Issued by Central Banks to the General Public Since there is no global incentive on how to limit the incorporation of new digital currencies - altcoins every day, week, month, what can be easily noticed is hyperdeflation in digital currencies, since two ecosystems don't match. Over emission of fiat currencies can be easily eaten by virtual currencies market, making prices of virtual currencies to go up and up and the sky is the only limit. Fiat currencies once entered virtual digital currencies market require deflation mechanism. So the best mechanism to work is to implement Best Before: Date clause for virtual digital currencies issued by central banks. Let me know your opinio

Failing to send a testnet transaction manually

Failing to send a testnet transaction manually I use Ken Shirriff's post on how to manually create and send a transaction, and I tried to adjust it to work with testnet. AFAIK after adjusting to the testnet addresses, no further adjustments should be made in the tx creation and signature process. However, my transaction does not work... I successfully connect to peer 185.28.76.179:18333, send the transaction but nothing happens. What should I do to figure this out? Tether decouples demand from price?

Tether decouples demand from price? So I don't understand how Tether (USDT) works. I hear two contradicting things about it. First, is that it is pegged to the dollar, plus or minus a few cents here and there. Second, that you can buy or sell freely from some other cryptos. BUT, usually when lots of people are buying a crypto, it's price will go up. But tether seems to somehow decouple demand from price. I thought that was impossible? http://ift.tt/2BXJtob

Why Ripple use Blockchain technology in the first place?

Why Ripple use Blockchain technology in the first place? This is what I understand Ripple's use-case with banks. You and I announce to a trusted third party that $10 million of my money should now be considered yours. This third party isn't a middleman who holds debt, - it simply keeps track of IOUs and regularly announces to all parties who owes who how much. The ACH system in the US (a.k.a. "Direct Deposit") works this way. So, for the most part, bank's don't actually send money to each other at all - they just keep track of who owes who how much. Actually settling those debts, if it happens at all, has to happen outside of the systems above. Ripple, as I understand it, basically a distributed public ledger of IOUs. (And those IOU's can themselves be traded as currency, when they're written by a trusted party.) But why ripple uses Blockchain technology. Here doesn't Ripple acts as a middle-man? Why not to use central DB's? What is the dif

Trying to Understand Ripple's Ledger

Trying to Understand Ripple's Ledger I am trying to make sense of Ripple's ledger. My question: Is there one ledger, known as the Consensus Ledger, or are there two ledgers: known as Conensus ledger and Validation ledger? Context: I was reading about the ledger on Ripple's site. Block chain and its uses cases for a non-financial asset market

Block chain and its uses cases for a non-financial asset market So i have been reading a lot about block chain technology and its use cases in the finance and cryptocurrecncy markets. One thing that guarantees blockchain's success in the cryptocurrency market is the prevalent financial incentive for the miners to validate blocks of transactions to make it part of the public ledger (they are rewarded with bitcoins). This financial incentive is associated with a financial asset block chain and partly explains the ongoing boom in the price of Bitcoin. However, as an economics and technology enthusiast, i am curious to learn more about the inherent incentive structure that would prevail if the block chain is for a non-financial asset (let's say it stores patient's data- a use case for blockchain in the healthcare market)? How can we incentivize miners to validate and solve pending blocks in cases where a blockchain stores a non-financial asset and therefore giving a financial i

What does it mean to go negative on exchange?

What does it mean to go negative on exchange? I know this is a very basic question, but I am just curious about all this exchange stuff and I'm new to this.. so here goes If I trade at a bitcoin marketplace (exchange) lets say Kraken, Bitstamp or wherever.. and I for example buy 100$ worth of Bitcoin. The next day Bitcoin falls and I go negative eg. -7,8 What does this mean? a) did I just loose 100$ and have to pay this extra 7,8 to get back to 0,0? b) or did I just loose 100$ because the price fell but am still the owner of that 0,0001 BTC and I wait a couple of days so the value goes up again and I go positive, or sell everything and accept the fact that i blew 100$ ? Which one is it? http://ift.tt/2CpL35u

why the file generated by command dumpwallet has the key address pairs with the same hdkeypath?? I used the command "dumpwallet" and got a file with all private keys and addresses, and there is an extended private masterkey, and what confused me is that there are key addresses pairs with the same hdkeypath and I tried to generate the private keys in iancoleman.io/bip39 , but I can just get the private keys and address about half in the file, and I noticed that the key address pair with hdkeypath=m has two version, first is inactivehdmaster=1 and another is hdmaster=1, anybody can explain this to me?? http://ift.tt/2BYREjS

How to get my unconfirmed transaction to confirm. Stuck for 30 days

How to get my unconfirmed transaction to confirm. Stuck for 30 days My coins were sent with low fees by bitclub advantage. Due to this, the transaction is marked on blockchain as 'unconfirmed transaction'. I have tried to get the sender to reverse the transaction or increase fees and they do not respond. I am not a technical person and only a mere investor. I have seen a lot of explanation and even approached support@viabtc.com for help but nothing has been done yet. How can I confirm the transaction. I am willing to pay higher fees to unstuck the transaction. Question is: Someone explain to a sister like a 5 year old how I can have my coins in my wallet. I need someone to hold my hands and get my hard earned coins. Thanks http://ift.tt/2BWY1UW

How will Lightning Network nodes secure their hot wallets?

How will Lightning Network nodes secure their hot wallets? The success of the Lightning Network is dependent on payment routing. How will the Lightning Network handle most money being pushed towards specific nodes?

How will the Lightning Network handle most money being pushed towards specific nodes? Are there simulations of scenarios taking into consideration that most payments in LN will go into specific nodes (say, Amazon or Ebay)? The majority of payments we make are not towards our friends, but towards big entities that sell stuff. So the number of nodes making payments will always outweigh the nodes receiving them - this seems like the law of business if you ask me. I'm not sure how the graph will behave when all the money is always pushed towards few nodes. Have simulations been done for these sort of scenarios? http://ift.tt/2lrbqNW

How to split up the coinbase reward? [ALTCOIN]

How to split up the coinbase reward? [ALTCOIN] This should be an intriguing question/problem for anyone involved with bitcoin development or altcoin development. Some Context... I'm currently in development of an altcoin based on the bitcoin source code, which is designed to help charities raise capital. It does this by sending 20% of the coinbase reward to a pre-defined wallet address, whenever a successful block is mined by a miner. Lets call this wallet the fund wallet. This 20% is used to fund the charity. As the coin is adopted and mined, this wallet receives a steady stream of coins. The Part That Works... I have made some changes to the original bitcoin code so that the mining reward can be split over multiple wallets when the coin is mined in the QT wallet. In src/miner.cpp the coinbase transaction is an object of type CMutableTransaction, which has a vector of outputs called vout. Now, when a miner mines a block, the coinbase transaction's output is split into two

What underlying data structure is used to store wallet address on the blockchain?

What underlying data structure is used to store wallet address on the blockchain? I'm curious how websites like bitref.com can determine the balance of a bitcoin wallet very quickly. I understand that the blockchain stores every single transaction across the thousands of blocks, so it's possible to reconstruct the balance of any wallet with this ledger. But wouldn't it take a long time to scan all these transactions? Instead, does the blockchain actually store every single address in some sort of map? Would this also contain the balance of each address? If so, I can't find a website where I could view all the addresses on the blockchain. Does anyone know where I can find that? http://ift.tt/2pVXEIO

blockchain mining

blockchain mining Good day Everyone!!, I've been approached by at least two people on one of my social media accounts and they were claiming that they would be able to increase my bitcoin by linking my wallet to their miner. Now what I was curious about is whether this was a scam and if not was there a way of keeping myself secure in the process???? The process from what I was being sold is as follows: Open a blockchain wallet. Send them the details of the wallet (user and password) Change the password to whatever Start earning after depositing a certain bare minimum amount (lets say 0.004) I should theoretically start earning... http://ift.tt/2lj8TX3

Shares from mining Electroneum sent to my Electroneum wallet never show up?

Image
Shares from mining Electroneum sent to my Electroneum wallet never show up? I've been mining Electroneum for a few days, primarily to learn about how Electroneum works. It uses the CryptoNight algorithm, similar to Monero, which means CPU/GPU mining is not impossibly ineffective, as it is with SHA256 algorithms. Anyway, I'm running a "full" Electroneum node using the Windows x64 binary from their GitHub repo . The node is completely synced with electroneumd.exe running 24x7, and has been since well prior to my mining attempts. I've also configured a new wallet using their electroneum-wallet-cli.exe utility. Since I've mined over 10 ETN with EasyHash, they made a payment to my wallet yesterday: Since one of the principal tenets of Electroneum is "fast transaction speeds&quo

BTC transaction is slow now. How come when buying at Exchange, it's immediate? On Exchange, when buy or sell, it's immediate. Isn't transaction is supposed to be ledger by Blockchain? From the Whitepaper: Timestamps prove that the data must have existed at the time" The whitepaper says exactly this: "The timestamp proves that the data must have existed at the time, obviously, in order to get into the hash. Can anyone explain this pseudocode to find a returning address?

Can anyone explain this pseudocode to find a returning address? I was reading a popular answer which explains how to find the address of the person who sent a transaction and the pseudocode in that answer does not make much sense to me. txid = <relevant transaction id> addresses = [] raw_tx = decoderawtransaction(getrawtransaction(txid)) for(input in raw_tx['vin']) { input_raw_tx = decoderawtransaction(getrawtransaction(input['txid'])) addresses.push(input_raw_tx['vout'][input['vout']]['scriptPubKey']['addresses'][0]) } Here is the part which I understood. A wallet which created txid can use many inputs from different addresses to send that amount of money. This is why we iterate over input in raw_tx['vin'] and create a list of addresses addresses = []. Here is a part which is unclear for me: input_raw_tx['vout'][input['vout']]['scriptPubKey']['addresses'][0] input_raw_tx['vout&

Practical difference between mainnet and testnet

Practical difference between mainnet and testnet I managed to write a piece of code that generates a bitcoin address and creates a transaction. I would like to make some tests on the testnet but it seems to lack some documentation. So far I figured that we use a different version 0xEF (rather than 0x80) when creating a WIF key, and that we use a net byte of 0x6F (rather than 0x00) when creating a public address from the public key. What other differences are there? The differences I mentioned above are not sufficient to create a valid public address it appears. Maybe the base58 encoding is different? What about raw transactions? http://ift.tt/2pQ8G2e

How to change block generation time and make it real-name system? I maybe start with just copy bitcoin source, but I want to revise it. So I want to make another crypto currency that can be used for actual transaction at online game or offline stores. For this, transaction time should be almost instantly. So, block generation time should be shorter like few seconds. How achieve this? What part of source should I revise? And whats the problem of making this short? System unstable? How to solve that? Why do we need SegWit (technical explanation)

Why do we need SegWit (technical explanation) After reading a lot of articles, whitepapers and videos I am still confused why do we need SegWit an Lightning instead of just bigger blocks. I don‘t want to debate Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash but what are the technical arguments? For a non-involved Bitcoin developer the debate is just crazy and both sides have their pros and cons but there must be technical arguments or not..? Cryptocurrency with addresses that cannot collide?

Cryptocurrency with addresses that cannot collide? I had originally posted the following question here: Is it possible to have a cryptocurrency based on email address? And now I have come across The Large Bitcoin Collider I have read on Bitcoin Stackexchange and other places people writing how improbably it is to collide with an existing address with a balance. Some even wrote its astronomically improbable. But if you look here you'll see that the LBC in a matter of few months has already found over 15 addresses with balance, of which one contained 0.54 BTC: LBC Trophies Imagine once it starts harnessing more power from users? Clearly this is a big problem. Right now a Bitcoin address with some balance is akin to a cabin in some woods with no door and a small pouch of gold waiting to be discovered. My question is, what is the solution to this going to be? I have a few comments which I'll consider unacceptable. I am listing them and their reasons. Comment: Even bank acc

how to add a buy transaction using bitcoin @ cryptocompare.com

how to add a buy transaction using bitcoin @ cryptocompare.com I'm using cryptocompare.com to track my bitcoins and altcoins. I've purchased some altcoins, and added these altcoins to my cryptocompare.com portfolio, and ensuring I entered the amount per unit in bitcoin, but I am unsure if this debits my total portfolio by the amount of bitcoin required to pay for the transaction. It seems I have too much bitcoin in my portfolio @ cryptocompare.com, which doesn't reflect my purchase of altcoins using some of my bitcoin. http://ift.tt/2pR76gi

What's so special about six blocks for confirming transactions?

What's so special about six blocks for confirming transactions? I read that when your transaction is part of a block that has five other blocks on top of it, you can feel safe that your transaction is not in danger of being orphaned because someone else would come along and confirm a series of blocks longer than the one of which your transaction belongs. My question is what's so special about six? It seems like an arbitrary number. Why not five or seven? http://ift.tt/2E7ys52

What is the community consensus regarding `Bitcoin Cash` and `BCash` - Bitcoin is only one, current naming strategy is not beneficial?

What is the community consensus regarding `Bitcoin Cash` and `BCash` - Bitcoin is only one, current naming strategy is not beneficial? I'd like to know what is the community consensus and what is the way of establishing consensus moving forward? The good metric could potentially be: sign a message using your Bitcoin private key In that way it should be possible to verify who are the active users of Bitcoin. (whatever that means) I'm looking forward for innovative and tried-and-tested methods to avoid autocannibalistic civil warfare. http://ift.tt/2DnstI2

Storing wallet key for automatic transactions

Storing wallet key for automatic transactions Is there any way to do this? For example I don't even want to know what my wallet is, only my server (intranet), so that it can make automatic transactions for me based on thresholds. Or should I not be looking at this approach at all? How do the big exchanges do it? Can I automate transactions securely without needing to type a password every time? The context here is a mining network http://ift.tt/2CfOTfg

Which Bitcoin wallet is best for production application?

Which Bitcoin wallet is best for production application? I have been researching into Bitjoinj alot. I have answered alot of my own questions by researching but I cant seem to answer these questions. Maybe because of my lack of understanding. I was hoping someone with more experience could help. 1) Is it safe and stable enough to be used in a real world environment? Handling other peoples currency? 2) Id like to store the wallets created in a NoSQL DB and import and export them as needed. Is this possible with BitcoinJ? If so are there any security features I need to implement to make it safe? 3) From the limitations section it says this: The Wallet code doesn’t scale well. All transactions that were ever relevant to the wallet are loaded into memory, all the time, and re-written every time the wallet is saved. This results in a simple on-disk format accessible to many kinds of apps, but has poor performance for heavy users. In time we’ll probably switch to a log structured walle

How does the bitcoin transaction fee get paid to miner(s)?

How does the bitcoin transaction fee get paid to miner(s)? According to http://ift.tt/2a1usTo The current "cheap" rate for a bitcoin transaction is $22. How does this get paid to the miners? When I view a blockchain explorer a few days later, there might be 16 confirmations. How many confirmations does it take to get added into a block? Is the $22 split amongst the 16 miners that confirmed the transaction? I understand proof of work. But I don't quite understand how a transaction fee gets paid out. Thanks. http://ift.tt/2zEcDqm

Do relay nodes need to have money in order to relay transactions?

Do relay nodes need to have money in order to relay transactions? Imagine Alice wants to send 0.5 btc to Bob. They both open channels with Carol, a relay node that has no money. They create single funded channels each of 1 btc. Now Alice updates her channel to be 0.5 to her and 0.5 to Carol (nevermind LN fees for now). To relay this 0.5 to Bob, Carol (the relay node) needs to update her channel with Bob to be also be 0.5 her and 0.5 Bob. But she doesn't have any money on her side to do this. All the money is on Bob's side -- as I said earlier, Carol doesn't have any money. What's the workaround for this? Do relay nodes need to have money to relay transactions? http://ift.tt/2C0K1ha

Why increasing block size increases centralisation?

Why increasing block size increases centralisation? I understand this is a contentious question. Help me understand Why increasing block size increases the risk of centralization? I don't understand what Antonopoulos meant when he said few people can validate the blockchain when block-size is increased. "If my block takes 11 minutes to validate, then i’m off the blockchain, which means fewer people can validate independently, which means the system becomes centralized. With which one of these increases, fewer people can participate in the validation process, fewer people can participate in storing the data, and fewer people can participate in being independent actors. We go from a system that is decentralized to a system that gradually gets more and more centralized,” http://ift.tt/2C00oKM

Seven Reasons You Should Invest in Digital Land

Seven Reasons You Should Invest in Digital Land Real estate has always been a good investment, yet problems often arise when purchasing a plot at a prime location in a big city. A tiny piece of land in Paris or London is incredibly expensive and even if you’ve got the money, practically all the top spots are already taken. However, buying artificial land in virtual worlds such as Second Life, Sansar, Decentraland or High Fidelity is not only easy, but also promises to be a profitable trend of the future. http://ift.tt/2lgLOmT

Help. Lost my backup phrase, but I have access to my wallet When I downloaded the wallet on my phone I was asked to write down a strange, meaningless phrase on a paper so I could access my bitcoins if they were lost, and I did so. I know pretty good why does this exist and understand it's importance, but i'm afraid I've lost the paper on which I wrote the phrase. What is the hierarchy of the development team for bitcoin core? Until recently I didn't know about Blockstream and I thought, superficially, all changes to the code were committed and reviewed by the community for consensus.
